Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to return to Borussia Dortmund side for must-win Tottenham clash

Borussia Dortmund head coach Peter Bosz has confirmed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will play against Tottenham tomorrow after the striker was dropped for their last match.

Aubameyang was left out of the matchday squad for Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat at Stuttgart on Saturday though Dortmund did not explain why their star player was not selected beyond “disciplinary reason”.

The loss on the road piled pressure on Bosz, whose side have slipped from the top of the Bundesliga to fifth in dramatic fashion and are highly unlikely to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Even if Dortmund beat Spurs at the Westfalenstadion they will need Real Madrid to drop points at APOEL Nicosia but the Germans’ hopes of an unlikely qualification will at least be boosted by Aubameyang’s return.

“Before I didn’t put him in the team against Stuttgart,” Bosz said. “I told him already that this was going to be a match that he would not play.

“But afterwards I spoke to him again and the team on Saturday and today he trained with us, with the team and that’s why I can tell you now he will play tomorrow.”

Aubameyang gave Spurs a torrid time in their first meeting of the group stages, a 3-1 win for Tottenham in which the Gabon international scored to draw the visitors level 2-2 only to see it erroneously ruled out for offside.
