Piers Morgan has accused Scarlett Moffatt of ending her parents’ career after they were dropped from Gogglebox.

The family were axed ahead of the new series of the Channel 4 show after Moffatt left following her I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here win.

Discussing the news on Good Morning Britain, Morgan said: “It will be a bit tense in the Moffatt household. Young Scarlett becomes a big star through I’m A Celebrity and has now effectively ended her parents’ TV career.”

Entertainment editor Richard Arnold joked: “I heard she’s bought a mock Tudor mansion in Berks, a sit down mower and her parents are actually sleeping in a car outside, it’s that awkward.

“I’m just kidding kids - and lawyers!”

Unable to resist a sarcastic comment, Morgan added: “I'm distraught by the Moffatts not being on Gogglebox as somebody who has never watched Gogglebox or even heard of [the family] - I couldn't be less devastated.”

Moffatt confirmed the news on Instagram and told fans that she and her family, who hail from County Durham, have been left “gutted” by the decision.

Alongside a picture of the trio at the National Television Awards she wrote: “We are going to miss doing #gogglebox so so much, but can't wait to watch the new series (good luck my fellow goggleboxers you will smash it love the Moffatts).”

The news comes days before Moffatt will make her Saturday Night Takeaway debut as a co-presenter with Ant and Dec.

She said she had been left “overwhelmed” by the new job.
