Good Morning Britain co-host and resident stirrer Piers Morgan has hinted that he could be leaving in September – telling ITV viewers today that it's maybe the last time they will see him "possibly ever" on the show.

The 52-year-old presenter kicked off his final daytime show with co-host Susanna Reid today before they both head off for their summer break, and sarcastically said: "I can't say too much but look at this face, happy face. Got out of bed at 3:45 today, oh it felt good.

"Do you know why it felt good? Never again. Ever. Never getting out of bed at 3:45 again."

And the prospect of Piers leaving our TV screens naturally left the public divided.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "Hooray! Piers is leaving!! Outer Mongolia hopefully!!" while someone else said: " I really hope the rumours you've quit #GMB are not true. The chemistry with u & @susannareid100 is why I watch. #dontquit".

Another added: "I hope the voice of reason @piersmorgan isn't leaving @GMB for good? & just holiday? Can't believe he won me round to his way of thinking!"

And speaking on Good Morning Britain yesterday (July 25), Piers teased that he may not return after their summer break, saying: "It's our last day tomorrow before we break up for the summer.

"So last chance to see us, possibly ever."

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays from 6am on ITV.
