Piers Morgan has revealed he is attempting to lose weight after being mocked by celebrity pals who’ve been calling him names such as "seven chins", "chubster" and "fatso”.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has recently returned to the popular ITV breakfast show after a two-month summer holiday - and he admits some over-indulgence while off led to him gaining half a stone.

After a summer of posh cheese and wine, Morgan says wife Celia Walden has set him up with a personal trainer and encouraged a healthier diet.

Speaking to The Sun he tells how name calling from celeb pals such as GMB co-presenter Susanna Reid has helped him make the decision.

He said: “Susanna calls me 'Chubster' and 'Fatso'. Even Dr Hilary piled in, and he’s a doctor!... And Kevin Pieterson calls me ‘seven chins’, which isn't very nice. I’m trying to get them down to six.”

He added: “I’m going to see a new personal trainer, and unfortunately Celia's taken it all quite seriously, so suddenly it’s all the good stuff’s gone and all the kale’s come in and the quinoa and vegetables.

“A lot of vegetables. A lot of salmon. A lot less Bordeaux - I’m down to one glass a night.

“During the summer, a lot of cheese went down my gullet, and it was a couple of bottles of white. Quite comfortably. Depending on the quality, and maybe a little more.”

The 55-year-old is not one to take such jibes personally and he often pokes fun at himself via his social media profiles.

Back in May he posted a photo of an ornament with which he shared an uncanny resemblance.

He joked: “Lockdown diet is turning me into my ornaments.”

Similarly, while in the French Riviera in July, Morgan posted a photo of himself at a street restaurant standing over an industrial-sized dish of paella.

In the caption he joked: “Lunch! (just worried there won’t be enough for the others).”
