Piers Morgan regrets slating Lady Gaga for saying she was suffering PTSD

Piers Morgan has admitted that he regrets slating Lady Gaga after she revealed she was suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after being sexually assaulted.

The Good Morning Britain host took the singer to task in a scathing tweet in 2016.

“I come from a big military family,” he said. “It angers me when celebrities start claiming ‘PTSD’ about everything to promote themselves.”

In a later tweet, he also called into question the validity of the singer’s allegations of sexual assault.

But in an interview with the Radio Times, he’s said that he shouldn’t have reacted in the way that he did.

Asked which tweet he regrets sending the most, he admitted: “I remember Lady Gaga saying she had PTSD and stuff and I launched into her and sort of inferred that no one outside the military should really be claiming to get PTSD.”

Following his remarks, he says that others informed him that instances PTSD can be triggered by many stressful events.

“I don’t think I should have been quite so dismissive of everybody,” he went on.

“I’ve got a lot of military in my family and PTSD is obviously a real problem if you come off a battlefield but I do accept that you can have it in other forms.”

He added that he accepted that he’d been ‘a little insensitive’ toward the mental health debate in the UK in the past.

Lady Gaga revealed her PTSD in an interview in 2016, and recently spoke again about it with Vogue magazine.

“For me, with my mental health issues, half of the battle in the beginning was, I felt like I was lying to the world because I was feeling so much pain but nobody knew,” she said.

“So that’s why I came out and said that I have PTSD, because I don’t want to hide—any more than I already have to.”
