Piers Morgan reveals Susanna Reid skipped the GMB Christmas party: 'She daren’t risk being around alcohol'

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid is sticking to her alcohol-free diet despite the temptations of the festive season.

Piers Morgan revealed on today’s Good Morning Britain that Reid left their Christmas party early “because she daren’t risk being around alcohol”.

Earlier in the programme, Morgan was forced to deny one Twitter user’s claim that he appeared hungover, telling viewers: “A woman called Gill has responded to a clip we put out this morning and said ‘Piers Morgan is hungover, not professional, not good'.”

“This is not a hangover, I was hungover yesterday morning,” he said, explaining that he’d been celebrating his son’s 18th birthday over the weekend. Reid was quick to back him up, telling her co-presenter: “You’re not hungover, you’re just very, very ill.”

“Trust me, Susanna has seen me hungover, in the days when she used to drink. God I miss those days,” he said. “At the GMB Christmas lunch on Friday night she didn’t even stay for the food, because she daren’t risk being around alcohol.”

Reid, who recently revealed that she has been teetotal for over 100 days, confirmed his account. She went on to tell viewers that she “had one sparkling water and left,” before pointing out that her colleague Charlotte Hawkins had been “necking” the coffee tequilas served at the event.

Speaking to the Daily Express about her lifestyle changes, the presenter recently claimed that she feels “clearer, sharper and more energetic”.

“It is more than 100 days since I last touched alcohol and I feel clearer, sharper and more energetic than ever,’ she told the paper, revealing that teetotalism has helped her deal with early starts on GMB.

“It’s certainly helped me – not least because I have to get up so early and it doesn’t help when you feel as if you are in a constant state of jet lag.

“I might fancy some vodka shots [on New Year’s Eve] but then again I might feel like I can keep going. The truth is I don’t know, but at the moment it’s working for me.”
