Piers Morgan slammed after interrupting Manchester Arena bombing report to talk about Shirley Ballas

Piers Morgan has been slammed by Good Morning Britain viewers for interrupting Charlotte Hawkins during a report on the Manchester Arena attack to talk about meeting Shirley Ballas.

One of the top stories on the ITV show was a news report on the Manchester bombings that killed 22 people and injured hundreds more, which happened one year ago.

As the news bulletin ended, Hawkins began “That is our top…” only to be cut off by Morgan to talk about an Instagram post.

While Hawkins and Susanna Reid looked thoroughly unimpressed with their co-host, Morgan said: “Just looking at Shirley Ballas. She Instagrammed a picture of us.

“You never know who you'll bump into at Chelsea Flower Show…”

Viewers immediately tweeted their distaste for Morgan’s comments speaking over the end of a report about the serious first anniversary.

Writing on Twitter, one said: “Piers that was disgusting interrupting the end of the Manchester report with news of Shirley Ballas with a big grin on your face shameful !#GMB”

While another posted: “Did @piersmorgan even listen to the news headlines. How rude to go straight into talking about himself (again).

"Half way through the news when the headlines were about the Manchester bombing @GMB.”

“Thinking very disrespectful to go from an item about the Manchester Bombing anniversary to not even acknowledge it but talk about Shirley Ballas posting a picture on instagram with him,” commented somebody else.

The report had been about the horrific events of last year, when a suicide bomb was detonated in the foyer of Manchester Arena following the end of Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman show.

Grande paid tribute to the victims and survivors of the attack with a touching tweet reading: “Thinking of you all today and every day. I love you with all of me and am sending you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
