Piers Morgan Slams Disgraced Social Worker Sharon Shoesmith For 'Cashing In' On Baby P's Death

It’s not often that Piers Morgan has Good Morning Britain viewers on his side but the controversial TV presenter won praise from fans of the show earlier today when he slammed disgraced social worker Sharon Shoesmith for cashing in on the tragic death of Baby P.

Baby Peter Connolly was just seventeen months old when he was horrifically murdered by his mother and her boyfriend, with it later coming to light that social services were aware that Peter was at risk but did not take the steps to remove him from his home.

It was also found that Peter had been suffering with a broken back and broken ribs for days, if not weeks, before his death.

Sharon Shoesmith was the head of Haringey Children’s Services department at the time and lost her job over the case, later reportedly securing a six-figure payout for “unfair dismissal”, now she has written a book about Baby P and Piers is not happy.

With Sharon admitting that she wasn’t going to give any of the proceeds to charity, she said that she has been unemployed since Peter’s death.

Piers seethed: “You are going to be profiting from Baby P’s death by giving interviews and releasing this book. Many people are going to find this distasteful.

"People do not think you directly killed Baby P. But everyone remembers this story and the heart-rending details of Baby P’s death. If I was someone who had a vested interest in that child, I would find it very awkward if the head of social service who was partly responsible for his death, was making money out of this.

"Now are you going to keep this money or give it away?”

Sharon claimed that she did not receive a payout for losing her job, as reported, and added: “I really haven’t thought about how much money I will make so I don’t know. I have no idea. But I’ve had no paid employment since I was sacked.

"I have fees to pay for after doing my PHD. So I haven’t thought about giving the money away.”

Piers went on to criticise Sharon for describing herself as a “victim” in an interview with The Telegraph, ranting: “You lost job because a young child died on your watch.

"You are accountable for his death and yet you call yourself a victim. That grates with me. The only victim here is the baby that died after chronic failures of social services under your tutelage!”

Piers was applauded on social media for his no-nonsense attitude to Sharon and Piers later tweeted: “Big reaction to our interview with Sharon Shoesmith. Suspect her new book re Baby P etc will prove hugely contentious.”
