Piers Morgan slates Coronation Street after character pokes fun at him in episode

Piers Morgan has hit out at Coronation Street after he became the butt of a joke in an episode of the ITV soap.

In an episode aired last week, Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) was watching breakfast TV when she complained that she “gets enough of a headache with Piers Morgan”.

Speaking on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Morgan commented: “I couldn’t understand where this impromptu, unprovoked attack had come from.”

He then hinted that it could be his co-host Richard Arnold, who is a friend of Cleaver’s, who was behind the joke, saying: “Than a little part of my brain took me back to Sue Cleaver – who is your best friend! Have you given me zingers in Corrie Arnold?”

It prompted Arnold to quip: “Twenty-three years I’ve been carrying that woman [Cleaver] and you get the mention!”

In the end Morgan admitted he was quite flattered by the inclusion.

“My grandmother loved Corrie, she would have loved me being mentioned,” he said.

Coronation Street continues Monday, January 15 at 7.40pm on ITV, while Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on the same channel.
