Nestled in the hills above San Antonio is the ultimate Ibizan institution – an eccentric idyll beloved by celebrities and locals alike.

If you haven’t been to Pikes yet, just know that it was at this 25-room boutique hotel that Wham! filmed Club Tropicana and Grace Jones was a regular. The pool is iconic, the views of rural Ibiza dreamy and it is quite simply a party paradise, with its own club Freddie’s (after Mercury who was a regular guest).

Now, in time for summer, Pikes has just completed a major refurbishment – adding contemporary and high-end design while retaining the hotel’s unique heritage.

“During the renovation, it was vital to ensure that the quirky elements of the interiors were retained to preserve the identity of the hotel,” says the project’s interior designer Lucinda Swayne. “Within the redesign we have created eclectic comfortable rooms with a unique feel, coupled with micro-attention to functionality, so that guests will literally never want to leave.”

Her words are echoed by Andy McKay, CEO of Ibiza Rocks Group which owns Pikes.

“Pikes is timeless and must always retain its beautifully core authentic ethos and essence,” he says. “By sensitively tweaking we’ve kept its meaning and legacy on a rapidly changing island whilst allowing the heart of Pikes to live on unchanged.”

Guests can expect an aesthetic which sees timeless rock ‘n’ roll meeting mid-century modern with furnishings by established British and Ibizan craftspeople. Think block colours, playful artwork as well as bold wallpaper, cushions and lampshades by Divine Savages. There is a heavy hint of the 1970s – which is when Pikes was founded, but the original finca style with Sabina wooden ceiling beams all remain.

The White Island is synonymous with partying with Pikes having leading the charge on that front for decades. Pamela’s restaurant is a visual feast — think pink — as well as having delectable dishes while there’s a DJ booth by the pool and a disco ball at the ready in Freddie’s.

The refreshed Garden Suites all have well-stocked mini bars and all the rooms have big TVs, USB charging points, hairdryers and also straighteners. Each room has all the pre-game and after part tech you’d expect.

However the refurb includes plenty of nods to wholesome fun — hello magenta tennis court — and the relaxation and rest needed during post-party downtime. Thoughtful touches such as beautiful silk kimonos by Silken Flavours, made with bespoke prints are found in every room while the beds — all super king — promise to be deluxe: if ever you need a blissful sleep it’s after a big one in Ibiza.
