Pinching Above Their Weight: The Internet ‘Daredevils’ Who Dangle Their Smartphones Over 'Precarious Locations' - With Just A Finger And Thumb

FOR mobile-obsessed youths, one can assume it feels almost as daring as risking life and limb.

These youngsters are taking part in the internet craze of ‘extreme phone pinching’.

The stunt involves holding the very edge of a cellphone with just forefinger and thumb and dangling it over some precarious void.

One assumes the more expensive the phone, the bigger the buzz.

Hundreds have taken to social media with pictures of themselves dangling their phones over bridges, drains, city streets – and even toilets.

For those prepared to take some serious risks of a lost phone, landmarks provide an ideal setting for a spot of extreme phone pinching.

One teenager dangles their phone over the Grand Canyon, while another has chosen Niagara Falls as the setting to showcase their extreme skills.

But it wouldn’t have become an internet craze without the element of risk – as some found to their cost.

One Vine clip shows a person attempting to dangle their mobile over a toilet using a set of grabbers.

Sure enough the phone drops into the toilet bowl.

Another shared pictures of an iPhone with a smashed screen, with the caption: 'when extreme phone pinching goes wrong’.

The craze is said to have been started by American band Twenty One Pilots and caught on after fans’ efforts at impressing the band were shared online.
