Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Early reactions brand Disney adventure 'a pleasant surprise'

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Hackers hold Disney ransom, will post film online if not paid

Does the world really need a new Pirates of the Caribbean film? It's a question no doubt asked aplenty following the announcement of the franchise's fifth entry, Salazar's Revenge (Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US), last year.

Whether you like it or not, the return of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is inching ever closer and the film was actually shown as part of Disney's CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday (28 March); perhaps surprisingly, early word suggests that Pirates 5 is a lot of fun.

The screening feedback from journalists and industry insiders also praised Javier Bardem's “menacing” antagonist.

You can see a selection below:

Pirates 5 sees Depp return alongside Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom. Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and, er, Paul McCartney will also appear in the Joachim Rønning Espen Sandberg-directed sequel.

Other films to have footage debuted at CinemaCon include the upcoming Jumanji continuation, Blade Runner 2049 and The Dark Tower which critics have given the thumbs up.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge will be released in UK cinemas on 26 May.
