Pictures have been released for the production of Rory Mullarkey’s new play Pity, opening at the Royal Court Theatre this week.

Set in a market square which grows more and more surreal, Pity, directed by Sam Pritchard, asks if things really are getting worse and whether or not we care about it.

Mullarkey makes a return to the Royal Court following his debut in 2014, during which year he won the George Devine Award, the Pinter Commission, and the James Tait Black Prize for Drama.

Pritchard is associate director at the theatre and his previous work includes Grimly Handsome and B.

The cast of the production includes Paul Bentall, Sandy Grierson, Helena Lymbery, Sophia Di Martino, Siobhan McSweeney, Francesca Mills, Abraham Popoola, Paul G Raymond and Dorian Simpson. Members of the Fulham Brass Band will also perform.

Pity runs at the Royal Court Theatre until August 11, royalcourttheatre.com
