A new pizza restaurant could be set to open at a former bank in the city centre of Bristol. The pizza restaurant would open at the former Royal Bank of Scotland branch on Baldwin Street.

The pizza restaurant, which will be a new branch of Rudy’s Pizza, is set to take over the ground floor areas of the former bank. Rudy’s Pizza currently has 29 locations across the UK, including in London, Manchester Leeds, and but none in the south west region.

Plans were submitted to Bristol City Council on January 3 in order to seek planning permission for the new restaurant. As of the time of writing, the latest document was submitted on January 24 which showed that neighbours were notified.

As part of the conversion into a new restaurant, a new “sliding shop front”, consisting of sliding glass screens, will be installed. Access to the ground floor is via a stepped access which the design and access statement says will be retained.

The statement added: “Internally there are no changes in floor levels within the existing ground floor operational and circulation areas, allowing full access to all areas throughout the ground floor of the building, with all corridors and doors allowing access to wheelchair users. There are full public toilet facilities for the use of the public, there are also full disabled toilet facilities and baby changing facilities provided.”

Features of the former bank, including the branded signage and external ATM, were removed in 2022 after the bank had shut sometime in 2020 or 2021. The upper levels of the building, known as the Apollo Building, was previously used as office space until 2000 before being converted into residential housing.
