A pub and pizza restaurant is opening a new wine bar and diner after tasting success with its business.

Joe Whittaker, James Dagnall and Peter Lancaster run Tesoro Pizza at their pub, The Finishers Arms in Smithills, which has proved to be a hit with customers.

Now, the duo are due to open up at the old Lillian Maund site at New Hall Lane, which will focus on their pizza offering and the pub will stay open too.

Their pizza will continue to be enjoyed at The Finishers Arms until the new premises opens later this year.

The new restaurant will be wine and cocktail driven and serve the famous Neapolitan pizzas as well as new pizzas not yet put on the team's menu.

In a statement, the duo said: “It’s a fantastic building and we are so excited to get going with the extensive renovation.

“2022 saw Tesoro grow as a business from our new home at The Finishers.

“We met many new faces who tried our pizza for the first time combined with our regular customers who have been with us for years and continue to fill our little pub week in week out.

“It is because of you that we start 2023 with the very exciting news that we will be opening our first purpose-built restaurant and wine bar.

"We are looking forward to bringing something new to the area and are hoping for a May/June opening.

"We will be recruiting for both front of house and kitchen staff so get in touch."

With a pizza oven built in Italy, Joe and Peter went all out to ensure their pizza stays authentic and fresh, even making the dough themselves.

Joe and Peter said: “Moving to our new home will help alleviate the issues we have seen over the last year.

“Although wonderful, having a 17th century cottage split over three rooms comes with operational issues, meaning as you may have noticed we book up extremely fast and are hard to contact via phone being the main two bug bears.

“We can’t wait to share our new space with you all and welcome you to the new Tesoro later on this year.

“We can’t wait to see you all  and thank you for all the support in 2022 and moving through 2023.”
