A pizza takeaway in Bristol is set to become a new bar. The Pizza Hut takeaway on Fishponds Road, which is opposite Lidl, is set to become a bar and kitchen.

The planning application, which was submitted to Bristol City Council, also includes a planned rear extension to the property at 703 Fishponds Road. The extension would not be seen by locals on the street so is judged to have “no impact” on the main road through Fishponds.

The planned extension would allow the bar to have a seating area spread out at the back of the property over the ground floor and a mezzanine floor. It means the existing takeaway would become a seating area, and at the back of the extended property would be the kitchen.

Plans have shown a potential 108 people may be seated within the seating areas across the two floors. A toilet would be installed close to the bar itself, which would be located within the middle area of the ground floor. The first floor of the property will incorporate an office area as well as living accommodation.

The heritage statement said that the property “can be described as a late 19th Century, two-storey terrace property with accommodation in the roof”. The extension would also affect the first floor in order to accommodate more bar seating.

Fishponds used to have a variety of historic pubs and bars, with some having links to the Victorian era. Whilst some of these pubs remain, others have been turned into housing or left abandoned.
