A Place in the Sun host shut down by couple after offering a hopeful 'surprise'
A Place in the Sun presenter Jean Johansson was shut down after she attempted to show property searchers Karen and Paul an apartment with a "wee surprise" she thought they would love. However, Jean did not receive the positive response she was expecting.
Karen and Paul were searching for the perfect holiday home in Orihuela Costa, Spain. The married couple met at just 17 years old, and have recently welcomed the arrival of their first grandchild, Alara.
They were hoping that Jean could help them to find a two bedroom property, with a private terrace and communal pool and within walking distance to amenities, with their budget of £75,000. After looking at a few properties with Jean, Karen and Paul soon made up their mind about exactly what they wanted.

After viewing the fourth option, which was a two-bedroom apartment with a south facing terrace, the couple fell in love with the property and said to Jean: "You've done well, you've ticked a lot of boxes." Paul, who was very keen to see a sunset view from his property, said: "I think you've nailed it with this one its perfect. It's got everything that we can move straight away."
However, property expert Jean was keen to show the couple a final property which she had been saving until last, which included a "wee surprise." Walking around the fifth and final apartment, Jean showed Karen and Paul the rooftop terrace and solarium, with a beautiful sea view, which was not available on the properties they had previously viewed.
Jean was prepared for the couple to be surprised with the showstopping view, possibly rethinking their decision as she said she had "rolled my sleeves up for the competition." But after seeing the view, Paul instantly knew that it didn't beat property four in his eyes. He said: "The sea view is fantastic but I'm having to look over next door's solarium to be able to see it."
He added: "I don't think this one is for us and we don't even need to sleep on it." A disappointed Jean was surprised at the couple's instant decision, but relieved they fell in love with one of the properties. She joked: "I think you two are the most decisive people I've had!"
Unsurprisingly, Karen and Paul wanted to put an offer in on their dream apartment "as soon as possible." The apartment was on the market for just under £83,500.
After some back and forth, the couple bagged their ideal holiday home for a bargain price of £76,000. Viewers took to social media to talk about Karen and Paul's successful search. One said: "That was a good deal they got. Nice one!"
