A Place in the Sun's Ben Hillman fails to impress buyers with 'waste of time' property

In the latest episode of A Place in the Sun, presenter Ben Hillman couldn't hide his frustration as he deemed one property showing a "waste of time".

Ben returned to our screens on Wednesday, ready to help newlyweds Tony and Sue find their dream home in Almeria, Spain. The couple's property hunt started promisingly with the second viewing ticking all the boxes.

But Ben faced a challenge when another property failed to impress. Despite offering stunning mountain views in an attempt to meet Tony and Sue's desires, Ben was left disheartened when it didn't capture their hearts.

Upon entering the third house, the couple quickly felt it wasn't right for them, with Tony confessing: "I don't feel excited." As the property viewings took a downturn, Ben expressed: "Feels like I'm flogging a dead horse," reports the Mirror.

He later confided to the audience: "Well, that was a waste of time." Viewers shared their opinions on Ben's efforts online, with one commenting on X: "Maybe I'm strange but I don't think those mountains (or any really) are a great view."

Another viewer remarked: "You haven't moved mountains it's just near the mountains. One person noted: "We're surrounded by mountains but there's nothing else here being 4 hours from the sea." While another added: "They're going further into the back of beyond with each property."

Later in the programme, despite the final property on Ben's list seeming like a potential contender, it was the second property that really caught the eye of the newlyweds. They were so taken with it, they decided to make an offer.

However, Tony and Sue were keen to get their money's worth, proposing a price of £148,000, which was £8,500 below the asking price. The couple justified their lower offer by pointing out that the house seemed to only have two bedrooms, despite being marketed as a three-bedroom property.

Fortunately for Tony and Sue, their offer was accepted. Fans of the show also reacted to the couple's successful negotiation. One viewer exclaimed: "148k wow." Another commented: "He's put his foot down."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
