A Place in the Sun's Jonnie Irwin's widow supported as she shares emotional family update

Jonnie Irwin's widow has shared an emotional family update with fans today, November 18, on what would have been the A Place in the sun host's 51st birthday. The TV host died in February aged 50 after a battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Jessica Irwin, and their three children. The mum shared a series of images to her Instagram account celebrating Jonnie, the pictures showed holidays together and a selfie of the pair.

In the emotional statement, she said: "Happy birthday my favourite, we had only known each other a few months and we booked to go to Cuba for my birthday. Because that’s what you did. You booked trips, you showed me more of the world than I ever could have dreamed of.

"The most handsome and best travel buddy, the boys are escaping school this afternoon for cake and love with family." The comments of the post were flooded with messages of support for Jessica."

One comment read: "All our hearts go to you dear Jesse and boys. I know what this feels and is ……. All the strength in the world" another added "Very much thinking of Jonnie today and you and the boys too. Hope you all have a lovely afternoon with cake. I will raise a glass of whisky to Jonnie tonight."

Jonnie made his terminal diagnosis public in November 2022, when he said his lung cancer had spread to his brain. At the time he said he hoped sharing his illness would encourage others to "make the most of every day".

In an interview with Hello Magazine opening up on his diagnosis, he shared important advice as he encouraged people to take out life insurance, which helped set his family up for life after his death. Jonnie's death was announced in February when a tribute was issued in memory of his legacy.

The statement said: "In Loving Memory. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing. A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage."

It continued: "Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on. Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten."
