Plainclothes Police Officer Attacked in Hong Kong

A plainclothes police officer was repeatedly attacked by protesters in the Yuen Long district of Hong Kong on October 4, officials said.

This footage shows a Molotov cocktail being thrown at him as he attempts to make a phone call.

The man, dressed in a white shirt, was involved in a scuffle with protesters moments before, wherein he was beaten and had the first of two Molotov cocktails thrown at him. As he batted out flames on his body, he dropped his gun on the road.

After he managed to retrieve the gun, the second Molotov cocktail was thrown at him, igniting one of his shoes.

Local media reported that riot police on Castle Peak Road then rescued him. “A black gun magazine was left behind on the road and an empty bullet round was also found. His vehicle was then driven onto Light Rail tracks while being vandalised,” the South China Morning Post said.

Shortly afterward reports emerged that a plainclothes police officer had fired a gun on Castle Peak Road. Local media reported that the gunshot victim was a 14-year-old boy.
