AS MANY as 50 new jobs are to be created at an “exciting” temporary pop-up restaurant along Southbourne beach.

The new venue, called SOBO Beach, will be built on the site of the now demolished Bistro on the Beach restaurant.

SOBO Beach aims to bring the “chilled, international vibes of Miami’s South Beach” along with some international flavour to Southbourne.

Between 30 and 50 jobs for chefs and waiting staff will be created at the restaurant during the peak season this summer.

Operations manager Rich Slater said he hopes the new restaurant will open at some point in June.

He said: “With the decision awarded at the start of May all hands are on deck to bring together a funky, vibrant venue in record time ready for this summer.

“We’re not just targeting holidaymakers; we want this to be a venue that the BCP residents can enjoy all year round and become a community hub. We’re looking to use local suppliers wherever possible to ensure our success is driven by the quality of local businesses.

“It’s great to see BCP Council have finally woken up to the opportunity along the seafront. We think SOBO Beach transform Bournemouth seafront.”

The restaurant will feature ‘FlaminGo Grill’ and ‘Wok-Shack’ kitchens in shipping containers and an open-top double decker bus providing a full bar and VIP lounge.

Mr Slater, along with owner Kim Slater, also run The Boathouse in Christchurch and Beach House in Mudeford Quay.
