Our Planet: Netflix reveal extended trailer for upcoming Sir David Attenborough documentary

Netflix has given fans an extended look at upcoming nature documentary Our Planet, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Attenborough is the voice of the new docuseries, which will air on the streaming service in April in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund and is from the same team as Blue Planet and Planet Earth.

On Tuesday, Netflix released a full length trailer for the new series, following on from a 30-second teaser broadcast during the Super Bowl last month.

“This is the story of our changing planet,” says Attenborough as the trailer begins. “And what we can do to help it thrive.”

Our Planet was filmed in 50 countries over more than 3,500 days, with Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey at the helm of the eight-part series.

The extended trailer features some of the world’s most beautiful species across the seven continents taking viewers on a journey from the Brazilian rainforest to the cold plains of the Arctic.

Netflix has also revealed that actress Penelope Cruz will take on the role of narrator for the Spain while Salma Hayek will provide voice for the Latin American countries.

“Our Planet transcends borders to deliver an inspiring message of wonder, respect and care for our natural world,” said Hayek.

“I’m honoured to work with Netflix to help bring the series to those in my home country of Mexico, and to a Spanish-language audience throughout Latin America and the rest of the globe.”

Speaking about the new series, Attenborough urged viewers to realise actions taken now will have a big impact on future life on Earth.

The 92-year-old added: “All across our planet, crucial connections are being disrupted.

“What we do in the next 20 years will determine the future for all life on Earth.”

Attenborough previously said that the documentary will “take viewers on a spectacular journey” and will get the world to “pay attention to the challenges we have created”.

Our Planet will be available on Netflix on Friday April 5.
