Plans for a 65-bed care home on the outskirts of a Cambridgeshire village have been submitted. An outline planning application for a care home on the outskirts of Willingham was submitted to the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service by development company Terra Strategic.

The site proposed for the care home is currently in agricultural use, according to a design and access statement submitted as part of the planning application. It said: "The site is well connected to the surrounding urban area of Willingham, benefiting from access to public transport, strategic highways, and a variety of local shops and services."

Maps from 1886 show the site was once an orchard, but this had been cleared by 1950. By 1972, it was part of a nursery, but from 1999 the site was used as agricultural land.

"Analysis shows a current net need for 45 'all bed' bedrooms in the market catchment and 91 in the local authority area, with a net need for 90 and 248 dedicated dementia beds, assuming all planned developments proceed," the design and access statement said.

"The proposed care home will be capable of caring for residents of all dependency levels, including those who require specialist dementia care, by providing flexible, COVID19-compliant care accommodation to enable care to be administered most effectively and efficiently."
