Plans for the future of one of Cornwall's most beloved attractions have been revealed. Dairyland at Tresillian Barton, near Newquay, closed its doors for good earlier this month due to 'significant' losses.

Now, it has been announced that a new farm shop and business space are set to take over the site next year. Sanders Farm Shop will be opening a dog-friendly shop and café with children’s play area at the former Dairyland site in February.

Full details of the opening have not yet been revealed, however, the owners said they first need to complete some work on the building before it can open its doors again. They added that there will also be other businesses and storage at the site.

Dairyland closed its doors on November 3 after bosses of the family adventure park and petting farm said they had been doing their best to make the business economically viable but were unsuccessful. It came amid rising operating costs that led to "significant" financial losses every year, despite two record seasons.

In a statement announcing the closure, a spokesperson for Dairyland said at the time: "It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce the closure of Dairyland Newquay. Since Purchasing the park in 2019 the team have strived to make the park economically viable, and despite two record seasons in a row under new management, the challenges of Covid and the ongoing increase in operating costs have resulted in the park making a significant financial loss every year which we cannot continue to support.

"We will find all of our animals new homes where they will be loved and treasured, as they have been at Dairyland . The park will be open for one final week in October for Halloween, after which we will be closing the park for the last time at 5pm on Sunday, November 3."

They added: "We are so very grateful for the support and kindness given to Dairyland over the years, and we know how much of a loss this will be for everyone who has grown up with Dairyland in their childhood. Thank you."
