Would you play Flappy Bird knock-off, Crash Bird, for a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy S5?

Pt. Epin and Kreon Mobile’s joint publication of Flappy Bird knock-off Crash Bird may not be anything to shout about, but the $3,500 worth of prizes they’re handing out to promote it definitely is.

Starting April 20, the top three Crash Bird players in the leaderboard will stand to win Samsung Galaxy S5, Nexus 5, or Lenovo P780 smartphones. This contest is open globally, and Kreon Mobile promises to deliver the prizes to anywhere in the world. Indonesian players may also win G-Cash for use in the Indonesian game portal Gemscool.

Gameplay wise, Crash Bird feels very similar to Flappy Bird, as you would expect from a Flappy Bird clone. There are minor physics differences, which Kreon Mobile claims makes the game easier, but for a Flappy Bird Master like myself it actually felt more difficult, perhaps because I’m used to Flappy Bird’s mechanics.

There are some additional changes as well: most noticeably, your bird comes equipped with a crash helmet that allows you to crash once and continue playing, giving you a few seconds of invulnerability after impact. Yes, it’s like getting hit after eating a mushroom in Super Mario.

Secondly, a bell will spawn on the map ever so often. If you fail to touch it, you will lose half your points. Half. Your. Points. If you fail to hit two bells in a row, your score will be reset to zero. You’d be better off dead. It’s my one gripe with the game that’s going to make me unwilling to try to win one of the top prizes.

The top prizes are pretty sweet, so I’m sure there will be many people willing to give it a go. Crash Bird has already made it to the top 100 on Google Play for Indonesia, and unless some pesky Greco-Roman pillar is standing in its way, it might even break into the top ten.
