Abu Dhabi Harlequins are encouraging rugby lovers of all ages and abilities to turn out this Thursday to the club’s annual registration.
Whether you are new to the sport or have years of experience, everyone is welcome to get involved for what will surely be and exciting year ahead.
The club from the capital are looking to progress after a strong year with the senior men’s Quins team after reaching three finals last term and winning The Gulf Top 6.
With pre-season well and truly underway and numbers looking incredibly strong, the Quins are hoping to banish any thoughts that they can’t handle the pressure and become more clinical in converting final appearances into silverware.
With former Munster and Newcastle Falcons player Jeremy Manning now at the helm as head coach, the club hope for a sizeable turnout at Zayed Sports City (ZSC) to aid them in their goal of a clean sweep of silverware throughout the region.
The men aren’t the only ones looking to better themselves, however, with the senior women’s team also looking to push on after a successful season – a year that saw them triumph in the Dubai 7s and come runners-up in the league.
Meanwhile, after just over 500 youngsters aged between five and 19 turned up last year, the Quins are hoping for an increase in numbers of juniors wanting to sign up for what is looking to be an exciting season ahead.
So with the club anticipating a big year from top to bottom, they are hoping to see a lot of new faces when they throw open their doors on Thursday Registration night will be held at the superb rugby pitches at Zayed Sports City, which has been the home of the Harlequins for the past three years.
Thursday will be the main training night for the junior players and Monday and Wednesday for the senior players.
With the Quins’ dedicated coaches making sure that rugby can be enjoyed in the right way and is fun for all, the club welcomes all boys and girls, beginners and experienced players, to come on down and play.
With the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Junior Rugby Festival (October 25-26) to follow soon, it is a thrilling time to be part of the junior Harlequins. The highlight of the year, the tournament brings together upwards of 1,500 young rugby players from across the UAE, with it being the biggest rugby festival in the region.
The Abu Dhabi Harlequins Academy will also continue this year with the aim to progress on from their maiden year, with both old and new players invited to join the academy to gain some elite development experience.
The academy will look to advance the key core skills along with progressing fitness and mental strength to enable elite players to reach the highest level of performance. Plans are also being put in place to hopefully introduce a developmental academy for less experienced players.
