Player ratings as Plymouth Argyle are humbled in Cardiff City rout
Here are the player ratings of Plymouth Live's Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the Pilgrims' crushing 5-0 defeat away to bottom-of-the-table Cardiff City. You can give your marks too using our special widget further down this story.
Dan Grimshaw 6 STAR MAN - It says something when a goalkeeper concedes five goals in a game and still gets the Star Man award, but at least Grimshaw made a couple of excellent saves or Argyle's defeat could have been even more humiliating. There was little he could do about any of the Cardiff goals.
Joe Edwards 4 - The captain would have felt the frustration of such a dismal display more than most among the Pilgrims' players and that showed when he picked up a yellow card in the closing stages of the game for pulling back Cardiff striker Callum Robinson as he tried to make a run in on goal.
Kornel Szucs 4 - Went from the high of making his senior international debut for Hungary to the low of being part of a defensive unit which had no answer for Cardiff's penetrating and relentless attacking play. City's second goal was a fine finish from Rubin Colwill but Szucs could not get sufficient distance on his headed clearance before that strike after a cross was played in from the left.
Lewis Gibson 5 - Even the usually reliable Gibson had an off day, although he kept battling away until the end as he tried to make tackles and clearances as Cardiff came up with attack after attack against little resistance.
Bali Mumba 4 - Just as was the case with Joe Edwards at right-back, Mumba was often very exposed at left-back or caught out of position. He was caused all sorts of problems by Ollie Tanner as he repeatedly surged down the Cardiff right.
Adam Randell 4 - Argyle were far too open and seemed prepared to offer Cardiff as much space as they wanted. As a result, Randell in the midfield holding role was completely swamped by City players running here, there and everywhere.
Morgan Whittaker 3 - Just not good enough for a player of his ability and importance to Argyle. Whittaker was hardly involved at all and very unusually for him he was substituted in the 72nd minute, which told the story of his afternoon to forget..
Darko Gyabi 4 - Had demonstrated a real appetite to get on the ball and drive Argyle forward in recent games but his performance against Cardiff was not close to the same standard. Was knocked off the ball by a powerful run from Ruben Colwill who then set up Anwar El Ghazi to make it 3-0 in the 51st minute and put the outcome of the game beyond any doubt.
Rami Al Hajj 4 - Argyle's Swedish 'number 10' was taken off at half-time, with his side trailing 2-0 and down to 10 men, and replaced by midfielder Jordan Houghton. Al Hajj, like those around him, had not been good enough on the ball or at winning it back and Cardiff took full advantage of that.
Ibrahim Cissoko 3 - You could understand the frustration of Cissoko when the ball was kicked straight at him by Cardiff right-back Perry Ng as he was on the ground after being tripped by Ollie Tanner but to react the way he did, grabbing Ng and shoving him over, left referee Andrew Kitchen with no option but to show a red card. The winger will now have to serve a three-match suspension.
Michael Obafemi 3 - The on-loan Burnley striker deserved to start the match after scoring his first goal for Argyle in the previous game against Blackburn Rovers but wasted a great chance to open the scoring at Cardiff when he shot wide after a precise pass from Morgan Whittaker and was barely a factor in the match after that.
SUBSTITUTES
Jordan Houghton 4 - Was sent on instead of Rami Al Hajj at the start of the second half to try to stifle Cardiff's attacking play but that plan did not work as Argyle were pulled all over the pitch.
Ryan Hardie 4 - Replaced Michael Obafemi in the 62nd minute but it was a thankless task to play up front for Argyle by that stage as they were under constant pressure and there was no quality of service for him.
Freddie Issaka 4 - The Wales under-19 international took over from Darko Gyabi in the 62nd minute, with the Pilgrims already trailing 3-0, and given the extreme difficulties they were having it was a tough ask for him to come on and make any impact.
Adam Forshaw 4 - Returned to action as a 72nd minute substitute for Adam Randell following a hamstring issue. The experienced midfielder could be in contention for a start in what is likely to be a tough away game against Millwall on Wednesday.
Callum Wright 4 - There was no chance for Wright to show the attacking side of his game after coming on for Morgan Whittaker in the 72nd minute as Cardiff pressed forward time after time in search of more goals.
Substitutes (not used): Marko Marosi, Nathanael Ogbeta, Andre Gray, Victor Palsson.
