PlayStation users may be able to change PSN names soon

From Digital Spy

PlayStation users may finally be able to change their PSN names in 2018.

The news was announced today at the PlayStation Experience (PSX) opening celebration by president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America Shawn Layden, gamespot.com reports.

He said the console could finally allow players to change their PlayStation Network handles before the next PSX, which will take place this time next year.

Woohoo!

"The elves at the North Pole have been working on it," Layden said.

"Let me put it this way: I hope we'll see events occur so that you don't have to ask me that question next PSX."

Name-changing has been available for years on Xbox platforms, but this has not been the case for PlayStation gamers.

The PlayStation team has given a number of different reasons for this over the years, with Layden previously suggesting it was a measure to prevent trolling, but others at Sony insisting there are technical problems to overcome.

To recap: this isn't confirmation that PlayStation will indeed let users change their PSN names next year, and we have no details on how Sony would implement PSN name changes, even if they are allowed.

On the Xbox, users get one free name change, while further changes incur a fee.

If Sony were to introduce the feature, would it do something similar? Watch this space.
