PlayStation 'working on a console to rival Nintendo Switch' and it's not the Portal
Sony is apparently working on a new handheld gaming console that will allow gamers to play PS5 games anywhere. According to a Bloomberg report, the technology giant is gearing up to take on Nintendo and Microsoft in the portable gaming arena.
Nintendo currently dominates handheld gaming, and a next-generation successor to the Switch is expected to go on sale in 2025. Microsoft is also said to be working on a prototype for a handheld XBOX, which again would take "a few years" to hit the market.
Sony is no stranger to the handheld market, having released the PlayStation Portable back in 2004 (2005 in Europe), and more recently the PlayStation Portal in November last year, although the latter was more of a PS5 accessory than a standalone gaming system.

According to Bloomberg, the Portal - which wirelessly streams PS5 games - was originally planned to be a standalone device. Sony sources were keen to stress any handheld is still years away from release, if the prototype console is even greenlit at all.
