Plumes of Ash Billow From Mouth of La Palma Volcano

A large plume of ash was seen rising from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on October 11, just over three weeks since eruptions began on the Canary Island of La Palma.

Lava flows have destroyed more than 1,180 buildings, according to the Canary Islands Volcanic Institute, who posted this video to Twitter.

Crews were monitoring the lava flow as it advanced in an industrial park.

Airports were operating early on October 11, but a change in wind direction was expected, El Pais reported, potentially causing difficulties for flights due to the ash cloud. Credit: Involcan via Storyful
