Plymouth Argyle player ratings from thrilling victory over Sunderland
Here are the player ratings of Plymouth Live's Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the Pilgrims' dramatic 3-2 win against Championship leaders Sunderland at Home Park. You can give your marks too using our special widget further down this story.
Dan Grimshaw 7 - Conceded two goals on his Championship debut for Argyle but the first was a well-taken penalty by Patrick Roberts and the second an excellent low finish from Romaine Mundle which Grimshaw could rightly have expected one of several team-mates in close proximity to have blocked. Overall, he had a solid first game for his new club and in particular looked calm and composed with the ball at his feet.
Joe Edwards 9 STAR MAN - An easy choice as Argyle's best player on the day even before his dramatic winning goal in the third minute of added time at the end of the match. Edwards is surely playing the best football of his career at the age of 33. He was again full of energy, while his determination and will-to-win was clear to see against Sunderland and spurred on those around him in green shirts.

Kornel Szucs 7 - The 22-year-old is settling well into the Argyle defence, and to the demands of the Championship. It is still early days, but he already looks to be a very promising prospect, not just for the here and now but future seasons as well. Szucs was involved in the build-up to the Pilgrims' dramatic late winner when his powerful shot from distance was only parried away by Anthony Patterson and Joe Edwards was there to slot home the rebound.
Lewis Gibson 7 - Along with Kornel Szucs, Argyle now have two strong, powerful centre-backs who give them good balance in a flat back four. The consistency of Gibson is one of his strongest assets. He can always be relied upon to make tackles, block shots or win headers, and it was the same as usual against Sunderland. The Durham-born Newcastle United academy product must have enjoyed getting one over the visitors from Wearside.
Bali Mumba 6 - Conceded the penalty from which Sunderland opened the scoring in the 24th minute. The former Sunderland player made minimal contact on Chris Rigg as he chased after him into the Argyle box but there was contact and referee John Brooks, who had a poor game overall, was justified in awarding the spot kick, although it was 'soft' one. Mumba almost marked his 100th appearance for Argyle with a goal which would have put them 3-2 up in the closing stages when his low strike was pushed wide by Anthony Patterson for a corner.
Morgan Whittaker 6 - Was not suited at all to Argyle's 4-5-1 formation at the start of the game. It meant he was confined to the right flank, with no space inside him to cut in, take on opponents and get in shooting positions. He did become more involved after a tactical tweak which saw Callum Wright move into a 'number 10' role and he played a big part in the goal which put Argyle level at 1-1 in the 54th minute. His sweetly-struck left-foot shot was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by Anthony Patterson but the ball still ended up in the net off Sunderland defender Daniel Ballard.
Callum Wright 6 - Started the game as one of three central midfielders alongside Adam Randell and Darko Gyabi. That largely limited his attacking involvement as Argyle could not match the tempo that Sunderland played at. Wright was pushed further forward after the Black Cats had opened the scoring and that gave the hosts a better balance, but he was still not involved as much as he or Wayne Rooney would have wanted.
Adam Randell 7 - As the saying goes, Randell worked his socks off. In the first half it was more it was more about containment as Sunderland had the better of the play but after Argyle seized the initiative in the second period he came to the fore as a driving force in the middle of the pitch. He is a player who Wayne Rooney clearly rates and has a great chance to establish himself as a first team regular.
Darko Gyabi 7 - Wasted Argyle's best scoring chance of the first half, which came after Sunderland had taken the lead, when the ball broke to him inside the Sunderland box but rather than taking a touch - which he had the time to do - he opted for a first-time shot and blasted it over the crossbar. Undeterred by that miss, Gyabi went on to put in a strong second half performance before he was taken off in the closing stages.
Ibrahim Cissoko 7 - Guilty at times of overplaying or taking the wrong option, but the Netherlands under-21 international's unpredictability still makes him a threat to opposition defences, as Sunderland found out. Cissoko had a quiet first half but was involved in the build-up to Argyle's first two goals with crosses played in from the left. At Home Park especially, he has the potential to be a matchwinner, either by scoring or creating goals.
Michael Obafemi 5 - Selected ahead of Ryan Hardie for his first Argyle start in the Championship but the loan signing from Burnley was too isolated as a lone striker for much of the first half and easily dealt with by Sunderland centre-backs Daniel Ballard and Luke O'Nien. It did not go much better for Obafemi after the interval and he made way for Hardie in the 65th minute.
SUBSTITUTES
Rami Al Hajj 7 - Wayne Rooney decided to given the Swedish attacking midfielder his Argyle debut off the bench, rather than in the starting line-up after his transfer deadline day signing. Al Hajj was sent on for Callum Wright in the 65th minute and almost immediately had a chance to put his new club 2-1 up but was slightly stretching as he shot wide of Sunderland's left post. Overall, it was an encouraging beginning for the 22-year-old, who got to experience a winning matchday at Home Park for the first time.
Ryan Hardie 7 - Will have been disappointed not to start the match, but it is important for substitutes to try to make an impact when they are called upon and Hardie did just that as he stretched the Sunderland defence. That led to Daniel Ballard making a challenge on him which referee John Brooks decided warranted a penalty and the striker kept his cool to slot home the spot kick before celebrating with his customary kneeslide in front of the jubilant Devonport End.
Brendan Galloway - Sent on to play at left-back in the 79th minute, with winger Ibrahim Cissoko the player to make way, as Argyle looked to hold onto a 2-1 lead. Galloway was one of the players who will perhaps feel they could have done better to stop Romaine Mundle's 86th minute equaliser from going into the net.
Adam Forshaw - The experienced midfielder was an 82nd minute substitute for Adam Randell. It is two successive appearances off the bench for Forshaw after his one-match suspension following his red card in the first half of the 1-1 draw away to Queens Park Rangers.
Jordan Houghton - Took over from Darko Gyabi in the 82nd minute as Wayne Rooney changed both of his central midfielders. It did not stop Sunderland from equalising but Argyle still came out on top in the end thanks to 'Captain Fantastic' Joe Edwards.
Substitutes (not used): Marko Marosi, Nathanael Ogbeta, Mustapha Bundu, Victor Palsson.
