Plymouth Parkway suffer nine-goal humiliation in defeat
Plymouth Parkway are still searching for their first win of the Southern League Premier Division season after being humiliated 9-3 at Hungerford Town.
Last season, the Yellows went down to a 7-0 defeat at Bulpit Lane, but a year in and they suffered an even worse result as their winless run in league action stretched to eight games.
Things had started brightly for Chris McPhee’s side as Shane White put them in front with an early penalty. But that was as good as it got as they then conceded four goals in a ten minute spell.

A fifth followed before Mitch Beardmore gave them a glimmer of hope to make it 5-2 at the break. But if there was any hope for Parkway, it was shattered within three minutes of the second half as they conceded a sixth.
Dylan Jones’ superb finish made it 6-3, but hungry Hungerford, who started the day one place above the relegation zone, showed no mercy adding three more goals before the end to complete a bad day at the office for McPhee and co.
Parkway are still second from bottom, but it was a good weekend for Tiverton Town, who are out of the relegation zone following their 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Hungerford Town at Ladysmead.
Joe Parker opened the scoring on the half hour mark and Winchester looked to have earned a share of the spoils when Oliver Griggs scored directly from a corner for the visitors. But Dylan Jones drove forward from full-back and drilled the ball into the bottom corner two minutes into stoppage time to seal a fine win for Leigh Robinson’s men.
“Big credit to the players for securing back to back wins and responding to some bad results in August,” Robinson said. “They’ve shown some excellent character in the last fortnight. I am really pleased to get the win and also the way it came in injury time.”
In the FA Trophy, Tavistock cruised through to the third qualifying round with a comfortable 3-0 win over North Leigh with Liam Prynn gabbing a hat-trick for Stuart Henderson’s Lambs.
“In the first 15-20 minutes, they posed a threat and had a couple of chances of their own, but two quick goals settled us down,” Henderson said.
“I thought the first 15-20 minutes of the second half, it was men against boys really and we got the third and the only disappointment really was that I thought we could have gone up a couple of gears and scored more goals.
“But the credit is that the boys were professional and ran down the clock and I felt it was quite comfortable in the end. That is what it is all about in cup competitions, going through to the next round.”
Prynn added: “I am always happy to score hat-tricks, let alone in the Cup when the prize money comes to us (players). One of them came off my studs and one of them came off the tape of my socks! It was one of those days really, everything I was hitting was going in and you take them when they come.”
Mousehole were winners in the Cornish derby, beating Falmouth Town 3-1 at Trungle Park with goals from Tim Nixon (2) and Jordan Hackett, but Exmouth Town and Bideford both bow out of the competition. Exmouth were beaten 2-1 at home by Horndean, while Bideford lost 2-0 at Yate Town.
It was also the second qualifying round of the FA Vase and there was a superb win for South West Peninsula League side Sidmouth Town, who beat Western League Wellington 3-1 at North Street.
Callington Town came close to shocking Buckland Athletic, but lost 3-1 on penalties at Homers Heath, while Wendron United were also winners on spot kicks as they beat St Blazey following a thrilling 4-4 draw.
The penalty lottery was also needed to decide the winner between Ilfracombe Town and Bovey Tracey following their 2-2 draw at Marlborough Park and it was the Western League side that prevailed winning 5-4.
Bodmin are through after a 1-0 win at Wadebridge Town, where Sam Ecclestone scored the only goal of the game, while Okehampton Argyle thrashed Millbrook 4- with Dan Koita bagging a hat-trick.
Ivybridge made light work of Welton Rovers, winning 6-2, while Torpoint Athletic were 2-0 winners at Honiton Town, which ended a run of ten straight defeats for them.
Torridgeside bowed out losing 3-0 at Paulton Rovers, while Elburton Villa were handed a walkover win after Axminster Town pulled out of the competition.
