Plymouth school submits plans to stop balls flying into allotments

A Plymouth school wants to install a net to stop rugby balls flying into neighbouring allotments. Currently balls frequently clear the height of a fence of the playing fields at Stoke Damerel Community College.

It claims a ‘stop-ball net’ would be “appropriately subtle” and wouldn’t harm adjacent trees. A project team which has installed two new artificial pitches, flood lights, security fencing and landscaping, and has now applied to Plymouth City Council for a net.

It’s part of an upgrade to the school’s sports facilities. A 3G pitch for football and rugby has been supported by a £250,000 grant from football’s Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation.

A 2G sand pitch, primarily suitable for hockey, can be used for a number of other activities.

Spades went in the ground in September.
