Plymouth is set for a huge new Asda superstore which will create 250 new jobs for the city. The superstore is inviting locals to see the proposals at a public exhibition.

The plans also include improvements to Weston Mill Oak Villa Sports and Social Club, thanks to funding from the supermarket development.

The exhibition is being held at the club on Monday, November 25 from 12pm - 7pm, to allow locals to see the new proposals for the club, which include a new clubhouse and improved pitches.

They will be funded through the development of a new Asda store and petrol filling station.

It comes after a long-running tussle between the supermarket giant and the Plymouth club, built up from scratch by locals. During the 90s, Asda came knocking on the door enquiring about a deal for the 70s era build and a chunk of the green space as it looked to grow its empire in Plymouth.

Now, three decades later, plans are finally in place and locals are invited to meet the developers this Monday.

An Asda spokesperson: “We are pleased to be working with Robinson Commercial and the WMOVSCA to bring new jobs, investment, and opportunities to Western Mill and look forward to liaising with the community closely as these plans progress.

“Subject to approval by Plymouth City Council, this proposal will provide over 250 jobs and new opportunities to the city, as well as bringing Asda quality and value to the local community.”

  • new Weston Mill Oak Villa Sports and Social Club
