Plymouth’s newest gym will open at the city’s new £19m shopping centre next month. PureGym, the UK’s largest gym operator, will open at Bravo Way, in Derriford, at noon on December 13.

The shopping centre, built on the former Seaton Barracks site, has already seen an Aldi supermarket and an Oggy Oggy pasty store open, with M&S Food due to start trading next week. The new facility will be PureGym’s third in Plymouth - it already has gyms in Alexandra Road and at Marsh Mills.

The Derriford PureGym will provide members with 24/7 access to flexible fitness facilities through a zero-contract memberships. The 10,500sq ft PureGym Plymouth Derriford will provide members with:

The new gym has created nine jobs and the company said it is always on the lookout for people who want to turn their passion for fitness into a career through the PureGym Personal Training Academy. This programme equips candidates to become certified PTs in just 14 weeks, and guarantees them a job at the end, after they pass an interview. The company’s PT Academy also provides ongoing PT business support and opportunities for career progression into management roles.

PureGym stressed it is committed to providing a safe place for everybody to work out and as part of its TrainSafe commitment has installed automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all of gyms. AEDs can be lifesaving in a critical situation, and PureGym said they are as essential as any other piece of equipment in the gym.

PureGym will be joined by Pets Corner and Costa Coffee at the site this year.
