A new free MOBA-style Pokémon game is coming to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arena) are games which see two teams battling across a map, with each player having control over one character.

Just like with popular MOBAs such as Dota 2 and League of Legends, the new game, named Pokémon Unite, will feature two teams of five players battling for supremacy.

Announced at the recent Pokémon Presents live stream, the stream also showed how a typical match will play out in the game.

Both teams start on opposite sides of the map and have to hold and capture checkpoints on the map to earn a higher score.

Throughout the match, there are goals to fulfil which upon completion will reward you with experience.

Actions like capturing wild Pokémon, defeating other players and capturing your enemies checkpoints across the map will give your Pokémon experience to level up

You have to score more points than your opponent in the time limit, and as you level up your Pokémon you can change its moves to cater towards a specific playstyle like being focused on ranged damage or being up-close and personal.

Pokémon Unite will release as a free to start title for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

There is no launch date yet, but more details will be coming sometime soon.
