Despite Demelza's inevitable indiscretion in the grassy Cornish dunes with Hugh Armitage in the show's finale last year, Eleanor Tomlinson has revealed her fiery character will be rebuilding her relationship with Aidan Turner's Ross in series 4.

And sadly for those who loved all of the drama, we can officially confirm there's "no more philandering"...

"What is great about Ross and Demelza in this series is they're a unit," Tomlinson told Digital Spy and others.

"She realises what she's got and she's not interested in a life of cheating or affairs. She loves Ross. So it's them taking their relationship on, and recovering form the pain they have caused each other and rebuilding their lives together. They find the heartbeat of their relationship."

Tomlinson also believes that Demelza is "best suited to Ross", insisting: "They can't live without each other. This series is them coming together."

As for Demelza's personal journey in the new series, fans can expect to see her stepping up in Ross's absence, and taking on greater responsibilities when it comes to their business.

She also commands the respect of the community, and embraces new social circles.

"Ross swans off so Demelza has to run everything," the 26-year-old actress disclosed. "She steps into his shoes and it's amazing how much respect she gets. She comes up to some criticism but nothing she can't handle.

"She's embracing a new social circle, trying to be a better person, trying to keep the business running and keeping her relationship working."

On Demelza's constant evolution and how she remains an inspiring role model, Tomlinson added: "She's always changing and growing.

"I've always seen her as a role model, absolutely. She's changed me – she's really quite inspiring. [She's inspired me] Just to be strong and stand by my guns, which I think Demelza does. She's a grafter."

The series begins in 1796 and sees Ross embark on a political journey which takes him to the nation's capital as he attempts to defend Cornwall from an empowered George Warleggan (Jack Farthing).

Meanwhile, Elizabeth [Heida Reed] tries to strengthen her marriage, while Morwenna [Ellise Chappell] continues to be oppressed by her repulsive husband Reverend Ossie Whitworth [Christian Brassington]. And the Enyses [Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde] will be tested as never before.

The show will also introduce dynamic new characters including The Thick of It's Rebecca Front as Ossie's formidable mother Lady Whitworth, and Max Bennett as the unscrupulous society figure Monk Adderley, who is on a collision course with the Poldarks

Poldark returns to BBC One in June.
