He said: "I was aware of Jilly Cooper's books, but I never read any before. So when the scripts came in I just thought, I have been part of this.
"It's fun, but the sex feels fun in it too. There are different types of sex, different types of relationships and dynamics that's happening in that sexual journey with everybody. So it's interesting to see those too.
Although no stranger to intimate scenes after starring in the brooding 18th century drama Poldark, Turner added of the sex scenes: "I think we do it a different way. It does feel refreshing."
Turner's co-star Nafessa Williams, who plays TV producer Cameron Cook and works alongside Turner's character Declan at the Cotswolds broadcaster Corinium, said the drama also goes beyond the sex.
She told us during a junket to promote the show: "Sex is just a small part of it, I would say. For me, it was about Cameron being smart and being bold.
"I will say there's a lot of balance within the sex. Also, I would say for my character in particular, she owns her sexuality. She is very powerful in how she approaches it. To me, that stood out.
"I also don't shy away from sex. If it's a part of the story, I'm a storyteller and I'm gonna tell it."
Rivals premieres on October 18 exclusively on Disney+.
