Police have made 200 arrests in one Stoke-on-Trent community - in a 123-day crime crackdown. Staffordshire Police have targeted rapists, drug dealers, and organised crime gangs across the council ward of Shelton and Hanley Park.

Fifty of the suspects have so far been charged, more have been bailed, and others have been referred to the youth offending service.

It comes as Stoke-on-Trent City Council has also fined 32 fly-tippers, repaired 33 potholes, carried out weapon searches, and shut four shops selling dodgy fags.

Chief Superintendent Elliott Sharrard Williams, Commander for Stoke-on-Trent, said: “I’m certain that our robust efforts to target those causing misery and damage to local communities is going to greatly benefit everyone living, working and visiting Hanley Park and Shelton. We’re determined to continue working alongside the city council and wider partners to build on the foundations we’ve set with our enforcement. We want to continue making positive links to local people, making sure they know that we’re here to help them, and to continue taking decisive action against those engaging in crime across the city.”

A mobile police station will be at Mirchi on Mondays between 10am and 2pm; at the Ember Lounge at the University of Staffordshire on Wednesdays between 10am and 2pm; and at Hanley Park Pavilion on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm.
