Police appeal over incident that saw 1,200 Bishop Auckland homes left without power

Police in County Durham are appealing for information after an incident in Bishop Auckland left 1,200 homes without power, potentially costing "tens of thousands" of pounds.

The incident saw power lines in the Leeholme Road area of Leeholme, Bishop Auckland damaged. It took place at approximately 6pm on October 1 this year.

In a post on social media, Bishop Auckland police said: "Officers are appealing for information following an incident that took place on 1st October at approx. 1800hrs Leeholme Road, Leeholme, Bishop Auckland.

"Power lines in the area were damaged and 1200 homes were without power locally as a result of the incident with the cost implication potentially in the 10s of thousands."
