Police appeal for witnesses after bikes stolen from Swindon storage unit
The incident is one of many bike thefts that have taken place around Swindon recently.
A bike storage unit at Olympus House on Firefly Avenue was broken into over the weekend of August 26-17.
The thief stole multiple bikes from inside the storage unit, but police are still searching for who’s responsible.
At the beginning of this year, Swindon police launched a scheme to protect bikes from being stolen.
Under the scheme, bikes were set to be marked with an invisible pen which only shows up under ultra-violet light. This means that if a marked bike goes missing or is stolen and recovered by police, then officers can more easily return the bike.
However, this does not seem to have deterred bike thieves, as data shows that just one in 30 reported bike thefts in Wiltshire resulted in a charge last year, new figures show.
Now Swindon Police have launched an appeal, asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Firefly Avenue area over the weekend to come forward.
Witnessess can call either CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111, or Wiltshire Police on 101 quoting the crime reference 54230092161.
