Police Arrest Climate Protesters in London

Demonstrators with the climate activist group Just Stop Oil were arrested in London on Thursday, May 11, after police imposed a protest ban on marching in the city streets, the group said.

A Just Stop Oil spokesperson said on Thursday that around 12 supporters were arrested at Parliament Square after being ordered off the road twice.

They were arrested for breach of the Public Order Act, the group said.

The Metropolitan Police said they had arrested 13 people who were in custody at London stations. Earlier the force said they imposed a condition on the group to “move out of the road to stop disruption to traffic.”

The Public Order Act 2023 came into effect earlier in May, and several people were arrested ahead of King Charles III’s coronation over the weekend. Credit: Just Stop Oil via Storyful
