Police make arrest after reports of Stoke 'knifeman'

Police have made an arrest after reports of a 'knifeman'. Staffordshire Police were called to Vale Street, in Stoke, on Wednesday afternoon.

A 44-year-old Stoke-on-Trent man has been arrested, quizzed and bailed in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said: "We have arrested a man following reports someone had a knife in Stoke-on-Trent. We were called to Vale Street after a group of people were heard shouting. We were also told a man had a knife. Officers went to the scene and carried out a search. No knife was found. A 44-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with a blade in a public place. He has since been released on conditional police bail while our enquiries continue."

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident. They should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 325 of 5 June, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
