Police Arrest Thousands During Pro-Navalny Protests in Moscow

More than 5,000 demonstrators were arrested across Russia on January 31 during the second consecutive weekend of nationwide demonstrations calling for the release of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Footage from Moscow shows officers making arrests and loading some into police wagons. At least 1,600 people were detained in the Russian capital, according to the human-rights watchdog OVDInfo.org.

The Moscow Times reported Yulia Navalnaya, wife of Navalny, was among those detained during Sunday’s rally. She was later released, the report said. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
