Watch: Vigilante father shouts 'Oh come on!' as he's arrested for murdering thief

This is the moment a vigilante murderer pleads "Oh, come on!" to police as he is arrested after stabbing a thief to death.

Police bodycam footage shows David King, 56, being arrested after he and his son, Edward King, 20, murdered thief Neil Charles, 47, in 20 June 2021.

David and Edward King were sentenced on Monday at Ipswich Crown Court to life in prison, and given minimum terms of 21 years and 19 years respectively.

Charles had been trying car doors around the father and son's housing estate at Radnor Close, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, when he was fatally stabbed by David King with a dagger, while Edward King sliced Mr Charles across the knee with a 2ft-long sword.

Charles died in hospital two days later.

Suffolk Police released footage which showed how David King, who worked for a construction firm, and Edward King, a Tesco worker, were arrested.

In the bodycam clip, filmed shortly after 4am, David King told officers: "I had a knife in my hand and he ran at me. And he seemed to be play-acting for a bit and then he ran off."

Police arrested King three minutes later. He responded: "Do you mind if I go change? Because I haven't got any underpants on."

As officers handcuff King, he says, "Oh come on!".

An officer tells him he must stay in the clothes he is in for evidential purposes.

Just after 4.25am, bodycam footage shows an officer calling at the Kings' house to arrest Edward King.

He answers the door with his shirt off and asks if the police have a warrant, only to be told they don't need one. He then lets the police into the house.

Prosecutor Richard Kelly described the Kings' actions as “vigilante behaviour” and “revenge or retaliation”.

The prosecutor said that the pair had been “looking to exact violence upon a local thief”.

Both defendants had denied murder but were found guilty following an earlier trial.

Judge Martyn Levett sentenced David King, who inflicted the fatal wound, to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years, which he must serve before he can be considered for release.

He sentenced Edward King, who was just 18 at the time of the killing, to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years.

The judge said both men went out “with the intention of hunting down Mr Charles and at least causing him really serious harm”.

He said a message thread indicated that the men thought they “needed the likes of Charles Bronson to bring justice back to the streets”.

Detective Chief Inspector Karl Nightingale, the senior investigating officer, said: “Neil Charles had a family who loved him, including parents and siblings and was due to be married in August 2021.

"At just 47 years old, Neil’s life was taken by David and Edward King, who needlessly pursued and murdered him in the early hours of Sunday 20 June 2021.

"David and Edward King have shown arrogance and contempt throughout.

"At no point have they shown any hint of genuine remorse or humility for their actions, convincing themselves they did nothing wrong at all.

“The vigilante conduct of David and Edward King has destroyed many lives, changed families and impacted their own community."
