Police ask if drivers 'understand road signs' as street closure notices ignored
Police have questioned Leicestershire motorists' comprehension of 'road closed' signs after drivers moved and then drove past barriers advising them a street was shut.
Officers in North West Leicestershire today (Friday, September 13) posted pictures of the signs on social media and asked users: "Does anybody know what these signs mean?" They went on to describe incidents in which some drivers had moved and then driven past such barriers in Station Road and Mill Lane in Kegworth - despite open trenches and exposed gas pipes being visible.
Expressing their and residents' frustration about the matter, the officers added: "Come on."

In their post, the police acknowledged that road closures could be "annoying" and add time to journeys, but said that the inconvenience of having 10 minutes added to a trip was not "half" as annoying as the disruption felt by residents living next to the roadworks.
They said the closures were in place for the safety of everyone and should be respected. They appealed to drivers, saying, "Please find an alternative location if the road is closed."
