Police blocked off a city centre food market following a break in. Merseyside Police received a report on Tuesday, September 24 at around 5am that Safi’s Desserts, on Mount Pleasant, had been broken into and a cash box was stolen.

Officers attended the scene and a 48-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of burglary. He was also arrested on suspicion of carrying out two other recent burglaries in the city centre.

He remains in police custody and will be questioned. The cash box was located further along Mount Pleasant. Pictures of the scene showed a small cordon outside the Mount Pleasant Food Market and an officer standing guard.

Sergeant Craig Winstanley said: “We take all reports of business burglaries seriously and thanks to a fast response from officers, we were able to arrest a man and seize a cash box following a reported break-in this morning on Mount Pleasant.

“Stealing from businesses is not victimless. It impacts people’s livelihoods and their incomes. I hope this arrest shows that we have a zero-tolerance approach to burglary in Merseyside.

“We will continue to work with our local businesses and communities to deter and prevent business burglaries and would welcome any information from the community about other burglaries or the sale of stolen goods.”
