Police Block Off Site of Deadly Capitol Attack

A Capitol Police officer was killed and a second officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle on Friday, April 2. A suspect in the attack was shot by officers when he moved towards them with a knife and later died, authorities said.

This video taken by Cai Pigliucci shows police guarding a barricade at the north side of the Capitol, which authorities identified as the site of the attack. A car can be seen halted with its blinker visibly blinking.

US Capitol Police acting chief Yogananda Pittman confirmed the suspect had rammed a barricade at a Capitol checkpoint and ignored commands before charging an officer with a knife. The suspect was shot and transported to the hospital, where he “succumbed to his injuries around 1:30 pm,” an official statement read.
