Police update after boy's face 'kissed' and woman tried to abduct girl

An update has been issued after a woman allegedly kissed a boys face and tried to abduct a girl near a Merseyside school earlier this month. Merseyside Police confirmed it had received two reports of a woman acting suspiciously in the Stamford Road area of Birkdale, near Christ the King High School and Sixth Form.

The first report relates to an incident where a teenage boy was touched inappropriately. The ECHO can reveal the school previously sent out a letter to parents and carers where it is alleged a boy was approached at around 3.05pm while outside a shop on the junction of Bedford Road and Kew Road. The letter explains the boy was approached before the woman "touched and kissed his face and appeared to be intoxicated".

It continues to say she offered him a lift before he walked away with his friends. In a separate incident, it is claimed a girl was offered a lift outside the school. Both incidents took place on Wednesday, November 6. A 54-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of sexual touching and attempted abduction of a child. Police have confirmed the woman remains on bail while enquiries are ongoing into the incidents.

The ECHO previously reported the incident involving the schoolgirl happened at around 4.40pm, when a woman driver tried to persuade the girl to get in the car. She initially drove past the girl before reversing and opening her window to repeatedly ask if she wanted a lift, who she was with and where she was going. When the driver realised the girl was being picked up, "she quickly sped away" according to the school.

Detective Inspector Edward Barr said: “Our enquiries are at the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place and I would ask people not to comment or speculate while enquiries are being carried out. It is important that we are able to carry out our investigation fully and fairly. The woman has been bailed with strict conditions while we continue with our investigation, and we are continuing to support those affected and their families.

“We have increased patrols in the Birkdale area to reassure people and I would ask anyone with any concerns or with information which could assist with our enquiries to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
