Four people were taken to hospital after more than 1,000 people descended on an industrial estate in Wales where an illegal rave took place over the Easter weekend.

Police were called after hundreds of people showed up for the "unlicensed music event" at the Kenfig Industrial Estate in Margam, Port Talbot.

South Wales Police said officers were called to the scene at 11.40pm on Saturday night, and hundreds of people were reported to still be there the following day.

Police initially said three people were taken to hospital - none seriously injured - and on Sunday night added that one further person had been taken to hospital with non-serious injuries.

The force added that a small number of vehicles and people remained at the scene on Sunday night.

Earlier on Sunday, South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Mark Travis said: "Initial reports indicated that in excess of 1000 people and 70 vehicles are in attendance."

He said a number of officers had been deployed and police were urging people to leave the site safely and to stay away.

He said the Welsh Ambulance Service had also attended in response to calls from the scene.

In a statement on Sunday night, South Wales Police said emergency services and local partners were still at the scene.

Assistant Chief Constable Travis said: "We are engaging with those present at the scene to ensure they make their way from the site safely whilst respecting local residents.

"The event is now dissipating and those attending have been leaving throughout the afternoon.

"We have worked with partner agencies to ensure those who have need help have been supported. It is disappointing that on one of the busiest days of the year that so many resources have been diverted from supporting local communities to manage an illegal event.”

"I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support."
